Dallas-based guitarist Rhys Davies began playing at age 9, inspired by the music of Buddy Holly and Richie Valens. At 12, he began studying classical guitar with Jan Ryberg. In 1992, he was accepted into Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas, where he studied jazz. At the same time, he continued private classical and flamenco lessons with Miguel Antonio while honing his performance skills in Dallas’ Deep Ellum area with the funk/rock of the Otis Lovejoy Band.
After five years of performing and recording with various rock groups, Rhys was accepted into Southern Methodist University’s Meadows School for the Arts on a guitar performance scholarship. He studied for three years with the American master Robert Guthrie and graduated in 2007.
Rhys now teaches at MyGuitar24/7 Teaching Studio in Southlake and performs in many styles throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth area. He has appeared many times with the award-winning Meadows Guitar Ensemble at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas and has contributed to professional theatrical productions as a composer and performer.
