Finding Music in the Heart of Texas
by Randy Lee Vradenburg A Trip to the Texas Music Hall of FameHi everybody! A few weeks ago I went to the Texas Music Hall of Fame in Hillsboro,TX, about an hour south of Ft.Worth. It's located right on the main drag at 212 Waco St., only two blocks from the Hillsboro courthouse. Although it is a small, quaint house, the hall was loaded with displays of real Texas music memorabilia, actual stage outfits, musician awards, and instruments from many of Texas' greatest music legends. You can also take a nice guided tour with the curator T.K., an interesting and dedicated fellow who used to work at SUN Records in Memphis, Tennessee. There is a small fee,but well worth the cost because T.K. makes the tour fun with info and stories. And get this... the museum even has The Big Bopper's original casket! T.K. will tell you all about it. When you're done with the tour, you can swap stories with T.K. or look around the gift shop and buy a T- shirt and collectors items, such as original recordings, posters awards, authenic autographs and vintage guitars. The Texas Music Museum is open on Fridays and Saturdays from noon to 6pm, but call ahead at (254) 580-9780 or visit the web site at: www.texasmusicmuseum.com. While you are there, be sure to eat at one of the great restauraunts in town!
